The theme of a grieving, recently widowed man finding help from an unexpected source is one that often seems to crop up in dramas. The Devil In The Deep Blue Sea co-writer / director Bill Purple believes he’s found a new take on the idea, and has cast Jessica Biel, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Chloe Moretz in the lead roles.
Purple’s script, written with Robbie Pickering, sees Morgan as the bereaved Henry, who is having a tough time of it after the tragic loss of his wife (Biel) in a car accident. He finds some solace from his pain by helping a wisecracking young girl who has a dream of building a raft and sailing it across the Atlantic.
The project has scored one other notable contributor, who probably-not-so-coincidentally is engaged to Biel. Yes, Justin Timberlake will compose music for the movie’s soundtrack and also serve as music supervisor to help select other songs. Purple has pencilled in an autumn shoot.
Given that they’ll also be working together as father and daughter in a tale of wilderness crime and survival in The Rut, we really hope Morgan and Moretz get along.
Biel has Total Recall and Playing The Field coming up for release and is currently shooting Psycho making-of tale Hitchcock. Moretz is attached to the Carrie remake and will, as mentioned, co-star with Morgan in The Ru****t. As for Timberlake, he’s worked on Trouble With The Curve alongside Clint Eastwood and will also be seen in Inside Llewyn Davis and Runner, Runner.
