Now here’s a movie that has instantly risen near the top of Empire’s must-see list: Nailed, a risqué political satire starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, and which marks the return to the big screen of director, David O. Russell.

Say what you will about I Heart Huckabees, but Russell has consistently proven himself one of the most invigorating and original American directors working today, and any project that gets him behind the camera is to be welcomed – especially if someone leaves the cameras running between takes (google ‘Lily Tomlin Huckabees video’ to see what we mean).

And Nailed sounds potentially brilliant. Co-written by Kristin Gore (yes, Al’s daughter), Nailed will see Biel play Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward receptionist who finds herself suffering wild sexual urges after accidentally being shot in the head with a nail. (See? The title already works on two levels)

Joyce then goes to Washington to fight for rights for the bizarrely injured, where she meets Gyllenhaal’s immoral Congressman, who takes advantage of her new sex drive for his own political ends.

Sounds pretty out there, but could be very, very funny. Shooting is scheduled to start in January.
