The worldwide pandemic has changed many film events this year, cancelling some outright and forcing others to make major changes. The BFI London Film Festival is no different, but with cinemas starting to re-open, it has planned something closer to a more normal programme. And now we know that, alongside the already-announced Steve McQueen title Mangrove, the likes of Pixar's much-anticipated Soul, Spike Lee's live concert film David Byrne's American Utopia, Chloé Zhao's Nomadland, Cartoon Saloon's animated folktale WolfWalkers, Brandon Cronenberg's sci-fi-horror Possessor and more will be screening.
This year's fest will feature 58 films from around the world screening as virtual showings that will be available to everyone (find more details in the video at the bottom of the page), a selection of exclusive previews in cinemas around the country, plus an internationally available programme of some features, short films talks and other offerings.
Running between 7-18 October this year, every screening will come complete with an intro or Q&A by the filmmakers, with films also including The Painter And The Thief, Shirley, Kajillionaire and Farewell Armor.
