She might still be best known as busybody for the ages Kitty Farmer in Donnie Darko, but Beth Grant has had a wide and varied career as a character actor. She's the newest recruit for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods.

The show takes the book's central conceit and expands upon it, chronicling the struggle between the gods of old and new, such as Gillian Anderson’s Media and Bruce Langley’s Technical Boy). The story finds Shadow (Ricky Whittle) trying to come to grips with the death of his wife when he falls under the charismatic spell of Ian McShane’s mysterious Wednesday.

As for Grant, she'll appear in a couple of episodes as Jack, the owner of Jack's Crocodile Bar. It's where Shadow first agrees to work for Wednesday, so it counts as a pivotal place in the story. And the role marks Grant's fourth time working with co-creator Bryan Fuller, as she previously appeared on Mockingbird Lane, Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies and he clearly appreciates her commitment to Sparkle Motion.

American Gods will be on the air in the States on cable channel Starz next year and will be carried on Amazon Prime in the UK.
