Besson Pulls A Section 8

It's a military euphemism for insanity, hovering around the A-Team's Murdoch and the dreamed-of goal of MASH's cross-dressing Corporal Klinger. It means you're mentally unfit for service. But in the hands of Luc Besson, Section 8 is also a space prison full of lunatic convicts, orbiting 50 miles above the Earth.

A 3D sci-fi action film, Section 8 is being set up at Besson's Europacorp studio in France. He'll produce, with Irish duo Stephen St Leger and James Mather directing. Producer and directors have all collaborated on the script.

Mather and St Leger made the awesome 15 minute short Prey Alone (which you can watch in full here), and will do extensive FX prep on Section 8 over the next few months, before starting principal photography in the early summer. It's an English-language film with a projected budget of $30m, and Hollywood distributors are apparently already sniffing around for the worldwide rights. As a producer, Besson has an eye for a fun bit of carnage, so we're optimistic that this should easily trounce any superficial similarities to Fortress.
