Berloff To Direct Spy Thriller

Andrea Berloff clearly impressed higher-ups with her work on Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center, for the screenwriter has bagged another gig translating a true-life tale to the big screen.

Berloff has pitched an as-yet untitled spy thriller in development at Dreamworks, which chronicles the rivalry between two spies in the upper echelons of the CIA. Kevin Misher will produce.

It’s unclear yet if this is going to be a rollicking thriller, a la Bourne, or a character study of spies and the impact their jobs have on their private lives, a la The Good Shepherd. It strikes us, though, that a Tin Men-style black comedy, with the rival spies attempting to out-do and destroy each other, might also be an option.

It seems that Berloff might make this her directorial debut, once she’s finished work on her current project, The Fugees, which isn’t about the 90s hip-hop pioneers, but instead about a group of refugee kids in Atlanta who discover a talent for football. No, seriously - and no prizes for guessing that that's based on a real-life story, too.
