We have a good handle so far on who will be returning to duty and who the new recruits will be for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which has the onerous task of both following up and slightly rebooting the 2016 film featuring the villains and antiheroes on a mission. If a report in Forbes is to be believed, he's reaching back into his work on Guardians Of The Galaxy for another name, as Benicio Del Toro is reportedly in talks to join up.
If this pans out and he makes a deal, Del Toro would be The General (who may or may not go under that name in the final film), one of the main villains that Task Force X would have to deal with.
He'd be joining the cast that already sees Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman returning from Suicide Squad, with Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, John Cena and Daniela Melchior. In fact, the Forbes piece mentions that Elba could be playing Bronze Tiger, who in the Squad comics serves as second-in-command under Rick Flag.
The Suicide Squad, with Gunn writing and directing, is on track for a 6 August, 2021 release. Del Toro, of course, played The Collector in Guardians, reprising the role in Avengers: Infinity War.
