Though there has already been a much-loved TV 'toon version and Ron Howard's less well-received (but financially successful) live-action movie adaptation of Dr. Seuss' tale, that isn't stopping Despicable Me team Illumination, which has a CG How The Grinch Stole Christmas headed our way in November. And thanks to Universal's presentation at CinemaCon, we know that a certain ubiquitous actor will be voicing the main character: yes, Benedict Cumberbatch will be summoning his best grump.

Despite its shiny animated trappings, we'd expect the new Grinch to largely hew towards the classic tale of the mopey outcast, his tormenting of the ever-celebratory folk of Whoville and eventual heisting all of their Christmas goodies before learning the true meaning of the season and... you know the rest. Heart grows, there's hugging. It will, of course, have to find ways to expand the brief story, but that's the job of director Peter Candeland and writer Michael LeSieur, who have been working on this one.

We'd list what Cumberbatch is working on right now, but that could take years, so we'll point you to the fact he's currently back on the set of Sherlock and can be found having his mind blown by the mystical arts in the Doctor Strange trailer over here.
