For all the promising visuals witnessed so far and its powerhouse cast, Doctor Strange remains one of the more mysterious MCU properties for the casual cinemagoer. Marvel, then, has seen fit to spell things out a little more clearly with a new featurette that charts its hero’s journey chronologically from cocky neurosurgeon to wizened superhero. Watch it below.

As Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo) and Rachel McAdams (Strange’s old medical pal Christine Palmer) relay here, New York surgeon Stephen Strange's world is rocked when he's badly hurt in a car accident. Looking to help regain his skills, he spends his remaining money on a trip to Nepal. There it all turns a bit Batman Begins when he falls under the spell of Swinton's unusual Celtic mystic and healer.

Back in New York’s Greenwich Village, he must make sense of some mind-warpingly metaphysical new realities while no doubt dealing with one or two nefariously supernatural schemes. Expect Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius – here found folding cities like so much bed linen – to feature prominently among them.

Directed by Sinister’s Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange will be out in the UK on 25 October.
