If you're going to tackle something originally directed by Alfred Hitchcock (and since remade at least a couple of times on screens big and small), you know you're stepping into potentially dangerous territory. Still, that isn't deterring Patrick Melrose duo Benedict Cumberbatch and producer/director Edward Berger, who have been putting together a miniseries version of The 39 Steps.
The Revenant's Mark L. Smith wrote a new adaptation of John Buchan's 1915 novel. The story follows an ordinary man, Richard Hannay (Cumberbatch), who becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order: 39 Steps that will change the world as we know it, with only Hannay standing in the way.
Production company Anonymous Content will start shopping this one around networks and streaming services, and we'd expect it to find a home soon.
