Guillermo del Toro is saying goodbye to Benedict Cumberbatch. Alas, Cumberbitches, the once and future Sherlock, is no longer part of the cast for the Pacific Rim director’s haunted house thriller Crimson Peak.
No explanation has been given for Cumberbatch’s withdrawal from the film, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, it’s not because of any other project (our guess would’ve been completing work on The Hobbit).
Still, this isn’t the first time del Toro has had to swap someone out for the film: Mia Wasikowska replaced Emma Stone, and he still has Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain in place. Plus, with time to spare before he cranks the cameras in January, there’s plenty of opportunity to find someone else to slot into Cumberbatch’s place.
But never fear! You'll be able to Cumber-spot in The Fifth Estate on October 11. He will be heard in The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug starting December 13, with 12 Years A Slave arriving here January 24 and August: Osage Count****y landing on 13 December. He’s also about to start work on The Imitation Game and let’s not forget that Sherlock – which just finished shooting – will be back for its third series later this year.
