As if it wasn't enough to be gathering early Oscar buzz for Argo, his true story about a big lie that saved lives, Ben Affleck now has his eye on another cinematic con, Job. He’s in talks to star in Focus for Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
The film swings around a veteran con artist that gets involved with a newcomer to the grifting business. Though they fall for each other, the lying and cheating that surrounds their activities ends up destroying the relationship. But that’s not the end of the story – the pair ends up meeting again further down the line.
You may recall that the Crazy, Stupid, Love writing-directing duo set up the project back in April. Ficarra and Requa had originally hoped to reunite their Crazy couple Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for the film, but that’s not happening now.
Warner Bros. is keen to get this one moving after several big names have considered the script and passed on it, and Affleck signing on would be a big step in the right direction - provided the studio can find the right leading lady.
Argo will screen at the London Film Festival on October 17 and opens in general release on November 7.
