Just when he thought he was out, they pull him back in. Thanks to the physics-cracking powers of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, we'll see more than one version of Batman in the new Flash film.
Talking with Vanity Fair, which broke the news, director Andy Muschietti revealed that not only is Michael Keaton confirmed to return as Bruce Wayne, but Affleck will also be seen. "He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before," the director says. "It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in." For more, head to Vanity Fair's site.
The new movie will loosely adapt the Flashpoint storyline, which sees him jumping to different points in the DC multiverse when he accidentally causes the parallel dimensions to blend.
Affleck has been a controversial figure among fans, with a diverse set of reactions to his casting and performance. With Matt Reeves working (or about to get back to work) on The Batman, a new era of Wayne is dawning. But it'll be satisfying to have Affleck get one more chance to fill the cowl. It's also the most positive forward movement on the Flash movie in years. Expect more details during this weekend's upcoming DC FanDome virtual event.
