Here's a combination of big-name stars, a director who hasn't made a film in a while and a novelist whose work has been frequently adapted, all making for a potentially promising film. Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are making deals to star for Adrian Lyne in an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's Deep Water.

According to Deadline, nothing has been locked into place yet, but it's looking good for Affleck and de Armas to play Vic and Melinda Van Allen, an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messier by the day. It has all the erotic thriller elements that Lyne has had success with in the past, and he's being trying to turn Deep Water into a film since at least 2013, when he set it up with Fox 2000. New Recency has the rights now, and Fox/Disney will produce it.

With Zack Helm and Sam Levinson wrangling Highsmith's twisty tome into script form, Lyne is hoping for all the pieces to fall into place in time for a November shoot.

Affleck is also attached to work with old pal Matt Damon and Nicole Holofcener on The Last Duel, which Ridley Scott is considering as his next film. De Armas has several films on the way, including The Informer, due on 30 August, Knives Out (29 November) and Bond 25, which is arriving on 3 April next year.
