In demand since her breakout role in Marielle Heller’s The Diary Of A Teenage Girl, Bel Powley is headed into the horror genre for the story of an urban legend that might be a little more real than people think. She’s joined the cast of **Wilding.
Fritz Bohm is directing the film from a script he wrote with Florian Eder and David C. Palmer. The story follows Anna (Powley), a young woman who spends her youth confined to a single room by a man she calls “Daddy” (Brad Dourif). He makes sure she doesn’t leave by telling her terrible tales of the outside world, and especially of the Wilding, a creature who roams the forest hunting and eating children.
When she’s freed at the age of 16 by a local sheriff (Liv Tyler), she begins to experience what she’s missed all these years, and discovers that the “Outside” is not as scary as she thought. But as she starts live a more normal life, strange events start to occur, some of them featuring Wolf Man (James Le Gros), an eccentric shaman who lives among the trees.
Wilding should be shooting at the end of the month. Powley is also attached to play adaptation Carrie Pilby and Haifaa Mansour’s drama A Storm In The Stars. She’ll be seen in Drake Doremus’ Equals alongside Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, which has played festivals but doesn’t yet have a UK release date.
