In The Beginning, Paramount Made Genesis

The Biblical epic is not exactly a new concept in Hollywood; in fact, the history of shoving God’s word and more on screen stretches back almost as far as the studios themselves. But now Paramount and former Walden Media man Cary Granat are planning to bring The Book Of Genesis to the big screen with a feature that all executives are currently worshipping – 3D.

Move over Charlton Heston, there’s something Hollywood likes even more these days, so it should come as no surprise that In The Beginning, the latest attempt to court the religious masses at the cinema will boast a plot that plunders Genesis to retell the creation story. Hidalgo writer John Fusco has penned a script, David Cunningham is directing and the effects are even now in the test stage, with hopes that the results will have the studio kicking off production later in the year.

The bigger questions, of course, are how the film chooses to represent Adam and Eve, who will be cast as God (Morgan Freeman, your agent is looking for you…) and whether Phil Collins will provide the music. Any way you look at it, it's good news for Sarah Palin.
