Beckinsale Offered Total Recall's Lori

Despite the fact that he had a laundry list of actresses interested in the roles of Lori and Melina for the remake of Total Recall, it seems director Len Wiseman has gone another way – towards the woman he’s married to. Yes, Kate Beckinsale has been offered the part of Lori.

If she takes the role (which wouldn’t surprise us, since the pair clearly likes to work together after meeting on the Underworld franchise), Beckinsale would be the wife of Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), a worker in a factory for the nation of Euromerica who, after having a holiday memory implanted, starts to believe he might be a spy for rival country New Shanghai.

Once he starts to peel away the layers, he discovers he’s part of a much bigger conspiracy, one engineered by Euromerica’s leader, Vilos Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). Assuming they haven’t tinkered with everything, the Lori character (played in the original by Sharon Stone) also turns out to be more than she seems.

Wiseman is still choosing from a likely pool of players for Melina, a rebel in the original who ends up aiding Quaid. According to Deadline, Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are among the front-runners for the role.

Shooting on the movie kicks off in May, aiming at a release on August 22 next year.
