With all the success that Disney has been enjoying with live-action versions of its animated back catalogue, the Mouse House knows that there are only so many films sitting waiting to be adapted. So why not spin off one? That's the plan for Beauty And The Beast, as Luke Evans' arrogant villain Gaston and his devoted henchman LeFou (Josh Gad) will return in a miniseries for streaming service Disney+.
The idea actually originates from Gad himself, alongside Once Upon A Time show bosses Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who had been working on a Muppets show for Disney+ that was ultimately scrapped in favour of an unscripted series. Now they're busy crafting a six-episode series that will be full of music (Beast composer Alan Menken is in talks to return) and explore events well before the film's story. No one else from the movie is currently involved, though there's a chance they could see whether Emma Watson wants to pop up for a cameo as Belle.
Gaston and LeFou were two of the more entertaining characters from the 2017 film (itself derived from the 1991 animated version), so a musical miniseries telling their origin story could be fun.
