All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again, as the Sacred Scrolls of the Colonials told us – and it seems Universal are taking this prophesy literally, pushing ahead with a movie version of the acclaimed sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica. Variety reports that Michael De Luca, Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark have all boarded the film version as producers.

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica originated as a TV series in 1978, followed by a short second series entitled Galactica 1980. It’s probably best known, however, for the 2003 three-hour miniseries and 2004 follow-up series, which won huge critical acclaim and enjoyed a healthy life as a DVD boxset.

Various other spin-offs and web series have followed, but a movie version has never materialised until now.

All the incarnations of the show detailed the Twelve Colonies in a distant futuristic outpost of the universe; the early noughties show focused on the near-extinct human race, on the hunt for a mythical planet known as Earth.

De Luca, Stuber and Clark have producing credits between them ranging from Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Moneyball, The Social Network, and, erm, Fifty Shades Of Grey.

There’s no word on cast, director, or release date yet, but the fact that three high profile producers are now involved means the wheels seem to be turning on this one.
