Last seen in True Grit, Barry Pepper is keeping busy and has just scored roles on not one, but two upcoming films. He’ll crop up in both Broken City and Snitch.
**Broken City **features Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a noirish tale about a Brooklyn detective (Wahlberg) hired by the mayor (Crowe) to track down his wife (Zeta-Jones)’s lover. But once he does so, the man is killed, leading the gumshoe to dig into a far bigger conspiracy. Pepper will appear as a mayoral candidate running against Crowe.
Snitch, meanwhile, sees Dwayne Johnson as a regular dad out in the suburbs whose son is staring down the barrel of a 10-year prison stretch. To keep his sprog from the clink, the dad agrees to become an informant against a drug dealer and his distributor. Pepper is playing the DEA agent that Johnson must report to.
Intriguingly, Allen Hughes is shooting Broken City in New Orleans and Ric Roman Waugh is cranking the cameras on Snitch in nearby Shreveport, which gives us images of Pepper racing between the sets, changing costumes and trying to memorise new lines as he does so.
But before either film, he’ll next be seen in Terrence Malick’s latest, currently untitled romantic drama alongside Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.
