Javier Bardem just can’t stop being bad. Fortunately, he keeps it all on screen and is now in negotiations to fire up another evil role, this time in cartoon form for Despicable Me 2.
The first film, which starred Steve Carell as scheming villain Gru, the mastermind whose cold heart is melted by three adorable orphan moppets, proved to be a huge success. So naturally, the sequel was quickly greenlit and is now in production over at CG company Illumination Entertainment.
There’s little word on the plot just yet, though we do know that Gru will this time face a brand new villain called El Macho (Bardem), who brings with him his own child, Machito. The Heat Vision blog reports that many of the original movie’s cast is coming back, so expect voice turns from the likes of Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Julie Andrews, Miranda Cosgrove, Kristen Wiig and more.
While actors often nabs roles in movies like this to score points with their children, Bardem welcomed his first, a son born to Penelope Cruz this past July. So his sprog will have to wait a couple of years to see dad in action. But that’s okay, because **Despicable Me 2 **isn’t due to hit screens until October 2013…
