In a year of innovative and memorable horror movies, Zach Cregger's Barbarian stood out. It was divisive for sure, but earned plenty of fans and, more importantly, was a success. It is perhaps not surprising, then, that his follow-up would generate plenty of interest. That script, titled Weapons has now landed at New Line.
Much of the movie is a mystery by design, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is described as "an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia".
Multiple studios looked to nab the movie, but New Line won out because on top of a hefty money offer, it gave Cregger final cut and a promise of a cinema release.
"Zach proved with Barbarian that he can create a visceral theatrical experience for audiences and that he commands every tool in the filmmaker toolbelt,” said New Line’s president and CCO, Richard Brener, in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier that he chose New Line to be the home of his next film, and hope it is the first of many to come."
