He’s currently busy working on real-life exploration tale Everest for Universal, and now 2 Guns director Baltasar Kormákur has just signed a deal to direct a script he co-wrote based on Icelandic sagas called **Vikingr.

Yes, it looks like a typo, but we are assured that it is deliberate and he wasn’t actually planning to write “Vikings.” The story will follow the early Nordic settlers as they fight their battles and go on raids, and also look at day-to-day life during the Viking age.

Kormákur worked on the script with Ólafur Egill Egilsson and may end up making the project as his next directing job once he’s finished working on the footage of Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Jake Gyllenhaal going mountaineering.

Little else is known about the new project, besides the fact that it’ll tap into a fascination with the life of Vikings that has been partly spurred by the US History Channel’s own series about the men and women of the period; that show, Vikings, is on Amazon over here.

As for Everest, which follows two separate expeditions to the world's tallest mountain that run into tragic difficulties in a sudden storm with life-threatening consequences, it’s now set to arrive in September next year.
