Thanks partly due to leading man Dwayne Johnson and his ever-present social media accounts, we've been bombarded with reminders that the Baywatch film is on the way. With the movie finally out in a few weeks, a new trailer has arrived, full of all the swearing, sexual references and amputated feet you might expect.
Baywatch, which aims to be a funny take on the 1990s show that kept David Hasselhoff in hair care products and capitalised on good looking people wearing skimpy swim gear running in slow motion. All of that – even the Hoff, who is having a good year for cameos – is seemingly present here, with an extra layer of rude comedy.
Johnson's Mitch Buchanan leads his team of lifeguards in an unconventional style, widening their scope to include some extremely risky law-enforcing when calculating businesswoman Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) threatens the beach. But with budgets crunching, there's also a need to hire a new hotshot to grab some attention: cue the arrival of Zac Efron's Matt Brody, described by Rob Heubel's Captain Thorpe as what might happen were someone to mate with a jet ski. Baywatch, which also stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera and Jon Bass, will be out on the 29th of this month.
