Call it the the Canine Cinematic Universe. The follow-up to 2017's A Dog's Purpose, another film based on W. Bruce Cameron's books, is arriving in the shape of A Dog's Journey — now ready to be unleashed later this year and the trailer is online.
The concept is essentially identical to purpose: once again we follow loyal pooch Bailey (whose thoughts are voiced by Josh Gad) as he is reborn in different dog bodies to help his humans. This time around, his focus is CJ, Ethan (Dennis Quaid) and Hannah's (Marg Helgenberger) new baby granddaughter. All seems idyllic until CJ's mother (Betty Gilpin) decides to take the child away and move to the big city.
When his soul moves on, Bailey promises to look after CJ (now grown into a young woman played at different times by Abby Ryder Fortson and Kathryn Prescott) and so begins another story of his various lives intertwining with hers.
Clearly looking to replicate the heartwarming feel of the original, A Dog's Journey heads to US screens on 17 May but has yet to announce a UK date.
