After the Golden Globes kicked off the 2019 awards season with some… unexpected results, it remains to be seen whether the rest of the upcoming ceremonies will follow suit with surprises and upsets. The BAFTA nominations have been announced and Yorgos LanthimosThe Favourite, appropriately enough, leads the way with nominations in 12 categories – including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Director, Leading Actress for Olivia Colman, and Supporting Actress nods for both Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone. Elsewhere, A Star Is Born, First Man and Roma all received seven nominations, as did surprise Globes hit Bohemian Rhapsody – though the Freddie Mercury biopic missed out on Best Film, instead making it into the Outstanding British Film category.

Adam McKay’s Vice has received several nods, particularly in the acting categories for Amy Adams, Christian Bale and Sam Rockwell, while Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman has been nominated in the major categories – Best Film, Director, Supporting Actor and Adapted Screenplay.
