Already making a name for herself in movies such as Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean's Eight, Awkwafina is headed for another big franchise. She's in final talks to join Sony's sequel to hit adventure comedy Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.

The scene-stealer will be looking to ply her trade alongside the returning likes of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, while the film's director Jake Kasdan is also back.

Kasdan wrote the script for this one, and while the plot details remain locked in a hidden room accessible only via cheat code, the story will pick up with the characters we met in the 2017 follow-up to the 1995 adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's book. There were hints of a potential sequel at the end of the film even as the high schoolers whose video game avatars were played by the main cast, escaped the Jumanji jungle scenario. We also don't yet know what Awkwafina will be playing, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, her role is "significant".

She'll be heard in the Angry Birds Movie sequel, due out on 11 October and has been developing a currently self-titled autobiographical TV series for US network Comedy Central.
