Hiro Murai might not exactly be a household name, but he's been jointly responsible for a lot of things that people have talked about recently; notably, he's been Donald Glover's collaborator on much-buzzed TV series Atlanta and directed his music video for This Is America. He's now looking to jump to big screen work, entering talks to handle sci-fi film Man Alive.
The story follows what happens in the wake of an alien invasion of Earth that has done major damage and wiped out a good portion of the population. A man faced with isolation and loneliness as he struggles to survive realises he might not be so alone after all... You can certainly see why the studio might find this one appealing given the success of Paramount's A Quiet Place.
Fox is producing this one, having nabbed it as a spec script from Joe Greenberg, and handed it to It Follows' David Robert Mitchell for a new draft. Legion producer Noah Hawley (who has also used Murai's services on that series) is overseeing the movie.
Murai also worked on Bill Hader's dark comedy series Barry and drug war drama Snowfall. We'll be interested to see what he does with his first crack at a movie, assuming he signs on to this one.
