While Guy Ritchie’s **King Arthur **film promises to be loaded with testosterone thanks to its knight-heavy ensemble, there will be at least one balancing female presence in the group. Deadline reports that Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tidesmermaid Astrid Berges-Frisbey has been cast as Guinevere.

Ritchie is currently filling his cast for the film, which Warner Bros. is hoping could launch a new franchise spanning as many as six instalments. Charlie Hunnam appears to be locked in as Arthur, with Idris Elba still seemingly in talks to play his mentor, Bedivere.

Guinevere, of course, is Arthur’s queen and a controversial character since she also engages in an affair with his best mate and first knight, Lancelot. How much of that plays into this initial film – written by Edge Of Tomorrow producer Joby Harold, who has planned out the other stories – remains to be seen. Warners will no doubt lock her into a multi-film contract to ensure she’s available for potential future movies.

Berges-Frisbey is next set to be on our screens in science-flavoured indie I Origins, due on September 26. She’s also just worked on Claudio Cupellini’s chilly drama Alaska.
