We're less than two months away from learning whether Assassin's Creed can buck the curse that seemingly lingers around movies adapted from video games. To keep the film fresh in our noggins, here comes the new poster, which admittedly plumps for more of a generic feel than other imagery from the movie.

With Macbeth director Justin Kurzel once again working alongside Michael Fassbender (and Marion Cotillard), what we've seen so far of the film's visual style suggests more reason for hope. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, an alienated, violent drifter who discovers that he is descended from a 15th century Spanish assassin named Aguilar. "Recruited" (read: disappeared after he's been sentenced to death) by a corporation called Abstergo Industries, Lynch taps into his ancestral memories via a device called the Animus to gain the know-how to fight the Assassins' age-old nemeses, the Templars, in a battle for the future of humanity. Of course, he discovers that not everyone is telling him the truth about all this...

With Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson also in the film, Assassin's Creed is out in the UK on 1 January.
