She may not have scored a well-deserved Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once, but Stephanie Hsu continues to be a star wherever she lands. She's part of the ensemble for new comedy Joy Ride, the directorial debut of Crazy Rich Asians co-writer Adele Lim.
Written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong & Teresa Hsiao, Joy Ride is a story of identity and self-discovery focusing on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin.
As the red band trailer suggests, this is packed full of raunchy humour and plenty of drugs/sex references (perhaps not too shocking since it's produced by Seth Rogen's Point Grey company) but honestly looks like a whole lot of fun.
Joy Ride will careen into UK cinemas on 4 August, while it'll have a 7 July launch in the States. A slightly toned-down UK trailer is below...
