Will he? Won't he? The whole Schwarzenegger/I am Legend quandry has been rattling around longer than Geri Halliwell but an end to the debate is finally in site. He will, but not in the way we thought. Richard Matheson's post-apocalyptic horror about a last surviving human surrounded by a world of vampires, was originally mooted as a Ridley Scott project with the Austrian Oak starring to kick some pointy teeth in. However, the project seemed to end up on a permanent back burner after a spiralling budget caused studio execs to pass out in fright. But I Am Legend is now back on track with Michael Bay in the driving seat and Arnold forsaking the title role in favour of producing the project. In fact, both Schwarzenegger and Bay are reported to be courting Will Smith to star as mankind's last hope. Filmed twice before, let's just hope this latest adaptation of Matheson's novel doesn't fall into the same dark hole as the last effort, Charlton Heston starring disaster, The Omega Man. Third time lucky perhaps?
