Aquaman: Horror-Focused Spin-Off The Trench In The Works

Aquaman – Trench creature

If you enjoyed bonkers blockbuster Aquaman (and its box office suggests a lot of you did) but found yourself wondering, 'I wish we knew more about those horrific creatures inhabiting the trench' (probably not as many people, but stay with us here), then you'll probably be happy to learn that Warner Bros. has decided that it's an element of the movie the studio wants to spin off.

Warners has writers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald ready to work on a horror-flavoured film based on the creatures we met in the movie, revealed to be part of the kingdom of Atlantis but cut off from other survivors when it sank and somehow evolving into ravenous monsters. One assumes the story will in some way explain how that happened and likely see some poor humans encounter the creatures, avoiding the need to include any of the main Aqua-cast. It'll be a lower-budget effort looking to key into the scary successes that Aquaman director James Wan has enjoyed. He won't handle this one, though, choosing instead to produce alongside Peter Safran.

Though there has been talk of a sequel following the huge earning power of the first film, Wan has yet to officially commit to make the next one, with no real discussions between any of the actors or studio. Still, if the company was going to take any part of the film and make a spin-off, we say justice for the drumming octopus!
