Aquaman: David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick Writing The Sequel

Though it handily crossed the $1 billion mark at the US box office, Warner Bros. has been taking its time considering a sequel to fishy adventure Aquaman. We'd heard talk of early movement, and that director James Wan had agreed to shepherd development before he decides to formally jump back in. A much more positive step has been taken, with writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has been hired to kick off work on a script.

Yes, before you say it, the first one did have a script and wasn't just written on the back of suggestions plucked from a tombola stuffed with loopy concepts. Johnson-McGoldrick was one of the credited writers on that film, alongside Will Beall, with DC boss Geoff Johns and Wan himself cracking the story.

Quite what the story will be at this point is anyone's guess, though the movie did lead secondary villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) alive to keep causing trouble (and with a vengeful need to take down our hero) with further nods towards a threat from Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park.

Wan and Peter Safran are producing the follow-up, and there's also been news that a spin-off is in the works featuring the creatures of The Trench. As of right now, however, there is no release date on the books for either film.
