Thanks to Aquaman becoming a big hit at the end of 2018, Warner Bros. is naturally looking to keep the cash streams flowing, with co-writer/producer/director James Wan overseeing development of both a sequel (due in 2022), a spin-off about the depths of The Trench and now an animated small-screen limited series.

Announced by HBO executives at the TCA winter press tour, the three-part miniseries will be made to show on Warners' new streaming service HBO Max. Called Aquaman: King Of Atlantis, it'll follow Arthur Curry's early days on the job ruling the underwater world. "he’s got a LOT of catching up to do," runs the synopsis. "Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!"

Wan will produce the show, but Victor Courtright and Marly Halpern-Graser will be running the show. No details have been announced as to whether the film's cast will voice their roles, nor do we know when the show is scheduled to debut. Though we'd expect it to appear before the sequel lands...
