Following years of talk about the project, legal struggles with studio Warner Bros. and the not-so inconsequential worldwide pandemic, George Miller is finally revving the engine on his Mad Max spin-off Furiosa, which will explore the backstory of the character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. The director has Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in line for the leads.
Warner Bros. is still aboard for the film, written by Miller and Fury Road's Nico Lathouris, which will track a younger Furiosa (Taylor-Joy, who had been rumoured for a while) in the years before she crosses paths with Max Rockatansky. Miller has also rounded up some of his creative team from the last film, including production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, who all won Oscars for their work.
And according to Collider, Hemsworth is expected to appear with a long, silver scar on his face as a character named Dementus, while Abdul-Mateen will likely be playing Pretorian.
Yet despite its advanced development, we'll still have to wait for the film, especially given Hemsworth's busy schedule. Mostly, though, we're just happy to see Miller finally able to move forward with this one.
