Anton Yelchin is the new Michael Biehn. Not generally a career arc a young actor aims for, but in this case it's no bad thing. Yelchin, who'll play Chekhov in the upcoming Star Trek movie, is in advanced negotiations to play the young Kyle Reese (played by Biehn in Terminator) in McG's upcoming fourth Terminator movie.
In McG's movie, Reese is a survivor of the man-vs-machine war who becomes friends with an early edition of the Terminator cyborg (played by Sam Worthington). His grown-up son (Christian Bale), whom he fathered in the past, is also now involved in a fight to save robot ravaged civilization from machine control. OK, we've seen all the movies several times and this is still confusing us somehow.
In other good news for the series, Paul Haggis is said to be in discussions to work on the script before the film goes into production in May.
You've got to hand it to McG, he's surrounding himself with great people on this movie. His cast are all talented and, on the basis of his work on Casino Royale, Haggis is no slouch at reinvigorating floppy franchises. He's still got an uphill struggle to please hardcore fans who are wary about this fourth movie existing at all, but McG appears to be doing everything right so far. We wish him all the luck in the world. We've not been great fans in the past, but we'd love to see this work out.
