After a couple of sci-fi tentpoles in Star Trek and Terminator: Salvation, Anton Yelchin will be coming back down to Earth in Jodi Foster's no less high-concept Beaver. He'll be joining Mel Gibson, Jennifer Lawrence and Foster herself.
The black comedy, as we reported with admirable restraint here, involves Gibson on the verge of a nervous breakdown, only able to relate to people via a beaver handpuppet. Variety reveals that Yelchin will be playing the son of Gibson and Foster, who understandably thinks his mother should file for divorce.
Kyle Killen's script picked up some serious buzz, topping the annual Blacklist of hot unproduced scripts. Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey were both touted to be starring at various points, and Jay Roach was once in line to direct, before Foster came on board and brought it to her Maverick co-star Gibson. It should swim into theatres in late 2010 / early 2011.
