Anyone who has seen Anthony Mackie in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, or indeed most of his movies, knows he can bring the funny when called upon, even in the middle of intense scenes. He’s set to keep the laughter coming with a new film called **Make A Wish.

Dear White People director Justin Simien will shoot the film for Paramount, working from Zach Frankel’s script. Make A Wish finds Mackie as American football star Butchie Jones who is contacted by the titular foundation that helps dying kids realise their fondest desires.

When he learns that there’s a 14-year-old who idolises him, Butchie is quick to offer to help grant the boy’s request. There’s just one tiny wrinkle – the young man wants to learn how to score. And not at football... Hopefully hilarity will ensure from this point, and we have faith in Mackie.

The actor has worked on a variety of movies since Winter Soldier, including John Hillcoat’s cop thriller** Triple Nine**, Seth Rogen comedy Xmas and Mike Binder’s Black Or White. He’s busy on David Gordon Green’s political pic Our Brand Is Crisis, which also stars Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton.
