The ensemble for Michael Bay’s first film in ages free of giant robots bashing into each other, Pain And Gain, keeps growing. Now Anthony Mackie is in talks to join up.
Pain already features Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Ed Harris and Rob Corddry in a crime story that has its roots in a real-life tale told by the Miami New Times.
Wahlberg and Johnson will be bodybuilders who concoct a scheme including kidnapping, extortion and, ultimately murder. Naturally, nothing quite goes to plan. Harris is on to play a private detective named Ed Du Bois who digs into the case, while Corddry is John Mese, the former accountant who owns the gym where Wahlberg works.
Now Mackie is in line to show up as Adrian Doorbal, a fellow bodybuilder frustrated by his progress who gets caught up in Wahlberg’s scheme.
With a script by Captain America writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Bay will kick off shooting in the next couple of months.
Mackie, who last appeared in Man On A Ledge, is set to have a busy year, with roles in Gangster Squad (arriving November 9) and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (out here August 2).
