There are more than a dozen future projects currently developing and pre-productioning at Jason Blum's insanely profitable Blumhouse. Many are sequels (Insidious, Amityville, The Purge, Sinister, Paranormal Activity) but there are also plenty of standalones jostling alongside them. Now there's one more, in the hazy form of Visions: a horror thriller set to star Isla Fisher and now Hell On Wheels' Anson Mount.
They will be supported by a poached-from-television cast including the Mount, Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory's Sheldon) and Gillian Jacobs (Community).
The plot of the typically micro-Blum-budgeted scarefest sees a pregnant Fisher moving to a rural vineyard with her husband (Mount). There she starts encountering a sinister hooded figure visible only to her. As she throws herself into solving the haunting mystery, her husband becomes increasingly concerned for her wellbeing, and that of the unborn child.
Jacobs is playing a woman who befriends Fisher. Does that leave Parsons as Mr Hoody? That detail is not yet clear. Blumhouse shopped the project at the American Film Market last year, at which point Ellen Barkin seemed also to be attached. But there's no word of her this morning.
Kevin Greutert (Saws 6 and 7) is the director, working from a screenplay by LD Loffigan (Hunger) and Lucas Sussman (Below). There's no start date yet, but with the cast coming together, shooting presumably starts shortly.
