As more of a latecomer to the crowded world of streaming service, WarnerMedia finds itself in the position of having to build up a stock of new shows to attract viewers on top of its admittedly hefty catalogue offerings. It has now announced that Baby Driver's Ansel Elgort will star in Tokyo Vice.

JT Rogers is on to write the first 10-episode season, adapting Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction book of the same name, which is a first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat. Elgort will star as ac character based on Adelstein, an American journalist who embeds himself into the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption. The series will chronicle Jake’s daily descent into the neon soaked underbelly of Tokyo, where nothing, and no one is truly what or who they seem.

Short Term 12's Destin Daniel Cretton is aboard to direct at least the pilot of the new show, which has yet to specify when it might arrive on the service, but then all we know about WarnerMedia's plans is that it'll start later this year.

Elgort has The Goldfinch headed our way on 27 September and is among the cast for the new film adaptation of West Side Story, which will arrive on 18 December, 2020.
