Warner Bros. has reportedly secured the sequel rights to I Am Legend, leaving the way open for a follow-up to the Will Smith-starring apocalyptic action film - although there's no announcement on any sequel plans, so don't march on the studio just yet.

The film, based on the legendary novel by Richard Matheson and starring the never knowingly out-charismaed Will Smith, has pulled in a frankly astonishing $335 million since it opened about 3 weeks ago, making it the highest-grossing vampire movie ever (we're not calling them bloody "dark seekers", OK?) and one of the top ten highest grossing films of the last year. So it should really be a surprise if there weren't any rumblings about a sequel.

That said, it's very unlikely that we'd see the same cast and crew - in particular, the star - back for a sequel, and the most likely option if this does go ahead would be (in Empire's entirely speculative opinion) to go for a change of tone, pace and scale and bring the story back closer to the book, but perhaps introducing a few elements of the film's last act. Perhaps any sequel could finish with something approaching the finale of the book, which would make Kim Newman (who's a fan) a much happier man.

But what to call it? I Am Legend Too? I'm Still Legend After All This Time? Bob Marley's Greatest Hits Vol. 2? (In-joke there for those of you who have already been to see it). Speak your brain!
