What happens if you produced a remake of George A. Romero’s 1985 zombie trilogy entry Day Of The Dead in 2008 and few people bothered to watch it? Why, you eagerly snap up a deal from other producers to take a new shot - which explains why we’re looking at yet another version groping towards our screens in 2014.
Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, two of the people behind this year’s less-than-inspiring Texas Chainsaw reboot, have hatched a deal with James and Robert Dudelson. The latter pair pumped out the first attempt to rework Day as a follow-up to James Gunn and Zack Snyder’s successful 2004 Dawn Of The Dead.
Day, which originally scraped onto UK screens in 1986, finds a small group of military officers and scientists sheltering in a bunker from a world overrun by the undead. And yes, this is the film that gave us Bub.
According to the LA Times, the current producers have between $10-$20 million to spend and want the film in cinemas next year. "We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible," Christa Campbell tells the paper, "to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in World War Z." Oooh, zombie trash talk! Let's hope they can put their lurching monsters where their mouth is.
