True-life investigation adapted

With Brian De Palma’s adaptation of The Black Dahlia hitting screens this year, it seems like interest in Hollywood’s most infamous unsolved murder is at an all-time high.

Which explains New Line hopping aboard the bandwagon by buying the rights to former detective Steve Hodel’s book Black Dahlia Avenger.

The true-crime tome is an unusal one – as it chronicles the author’s investigation into the crime, leading to him concluding his father was behind the murder of Elizabeth Short – the Black Dahlia killing.

"I found out that George Hodel was the prime suspect all along," Hodel told Variety. "The D.A. was days away from arresting him, but the police department was very corrupt. The files were sanitized, the physical evidence disappeared." Now that’s a film pitch!

There’s no writer, director or cast attached yet.
