What do you do for a follow-up to an Oscar-nominated delight such as Anomalisa? Why, you make a stop-motion film told from the point of view of Michael Jackson's chimp Bubbles, of course. Wait, what?
Yes, Dan Harman, the man behind Community and who executive produced Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson's film via his Starburns Industries production company, has worked with Andrew Kortschak's End Cue company to buy the rights to use the script.
Isaac Adamson's screenplay chronicles the ape's friendship with the King Of Pop after Jackson adopted him from a Texas research facility and gave him a home at his Neverland ranch in 1983. He lived with the megastar until he became too aggressive (Bubbles, not Jacko) and was moved to a primate sanctuary in Florida, where he still lives.
This could be an even more fascinating film than Anomalisa, but is also sure to be a controversial one given the rumours that endlessly swirled around Jackson. There's no director attached to this one just yet and the project is currently looking for a distributor.
