Beginners director Mike Mills is lining up an impressive cast for his next film, a family drama called 20th Century Women. He has Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning all on board to star.
Set in the summer of 1979, it will tell the story of a woman trying to raise her teenage son while looking for additional guidance from two other women in her life. It’ll all take place in the picturesque surroundings of Santa Barbara, California. Bening is the central character, with Gerwig as a sophisticated photographer chronicling the punk scene at the time and Fanning as one of the son’s friends.
"The film is an ode to the women who raised me; my mom, my sisters, the girls I was in love with or looked up to at school and in the punk rock scene where I really learned about the world,” Mills has said of his latest. He should be cranking the cameras later this year in California.
Bening will be seen in Danny Collins, which is out here on May 29. Gerwig has Mistress America, which has yet to lock down a UK date, while Fanning will be seen in Trumbo and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon.
