She's back on her screens with the excellent Colossal, for which she was an executive producer, and Anne Hathaway is aiming to keep the starring/producing ball rolling with a new, untitled romantic comedy.
Co-writers Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, who last waded into the waters of turbulent love/lust with How To Be Single, are behind the script for this one, which follows the perils of dating in our Tinder and other app-filled world where it can feel as though technology is overtaking everything. No, we don't know if it'll feature robots.
The movie comes from STX Films, which has been finding success with female-driven movies and is looking to make more of them. "We have been looking for ways to work with Annie since launching STX, and when she came to us with this idea, we knew right away that we wanted to make this movie with her," says STX boss Adam Fogelson. "This is a modern day look at love, dating and hookups with a very contemporary and authentic voice that speaks to a generation that casually swipes right to find a mate. As technology has allowed for a new era for matchmaking, it also comes with a lot of comedy and consequences and Anne wanted to explore that territory in funny, relevant and very unexpected ways." The next step for this new film, besides figuring out a title, will be to lock down a director.
Unless something else beats it, Hathaway's next film to see screens will be Ocean's Eight, which is currently scheduled to arrive on 22 June next year.
