Nancy Meyers has had to weather a few changes to workplace comedy The Intern. She originally had Tina Fey set to take the lead, and was then forced to switch to Reese Witherspoon thanks to scheduling issues. It’s all change again, as Witherspoon has dropped out and Anne Hathaway is in talks{ =nofollow}.

While Witherspoon had been attached to the film when Meyers shopped it around the American Film Market, she’s had to go back to her wish list to find Hathaway who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, attended a table read of the script with the writer-director and potential co-star Robert De Niro, which went well.

Hathaway will play the successful founder of a flourishing fashion website who is asked to recruit someone from her company’s Senior Intern Program. She’s assigned a 70-year-old widower (De Niro) who was an adept businessman before he retired. The differing values initially cause friction between the pair but we reckon that eventually they find a way to work together.

The actress, last seen in a cameo in Don Jon, will next crop up reprising the voice role of Jewel for** Rio 2** and has worked on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, due out November 7. She’s also just premiered Song One, a music-driven indie pic, at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
