Casting for Adam Shankman’s latest movie musical – based this time on ‘80s hair band jukebox show** Rock of Ages** – is really starting to heat up, with Anne Hathaway entering talks for one of the main roles.

She’s just the latest big name to be associated with the film. Late last week, Tom Cruise (who has been flirting with one of the other major roles) locked in a deal to co-star as Stacee Jaxx, a wild, arrogant rocker at the height of his fame who forms a crucial part of the plot, which swings around the fate of rock club The Bourbon, an ‘80s Sunset Strip hangout threatened with demolition.

If she does end up taking part, Hathaway would play a snooty journalist who plans to take down Jaxx with a cutting expose, but ends up falling for his charms, performing Foreigner’s I Want To Know What Love Is as a duet with him and then, er, forming the beast with two backs in a club bathroom.

Among the other names circling roles are Russell Brand and Alex Baldwin, though unlike Cruise, none of them have signed deals yet. Hathaway, meanwhile, is said to be interested but has a busy schedule post-Oscar hosting thanks to her jumping aboard The Dark Knight Rises
